Kenny and his friend, Arden, had their birthday party together this year. We went with a backyard movie theme, along with some baseball on the side, in case anyone got a little antsy.
We started off with baseball.
And then we did the cake and presents next since it was still light out. Arden’s mom made the cutest popcorn cupcakes. She used marshmallows (cut on the top) to look like the actual popcorn and then sprayed it with yellow food spray. Then, she stuck a yellow Starburst on top to look like the butter. They were really tasty too. To keep with our movie theme, I found these popcorn party favor bags and we stuffed them with popcorn, movie candy and poppers and placed them around the cupcakes.
And then it was time for the movie and popcorn. Anita rented a projector and speaker and we hung a drop cloth up to show the movie on. Some of the boys left half-way through the movie and started playing baseball again and others sat and watched the whole thing. We didn’t care, as long as they were having fun.
Happy (almost) 8th birthday, Kenny – I hope you had fun celebrating with your friends!

(And for the record, Luke had a party with his friends at Pump It Up in the afternoon and then our families came over to celebrate that night. I still cannot believe my baby is five!)

Mac turned four last Saturday (December 3rd).
I have to share this story while I’m talking about our dogs:
Apparently our dogs have something against the wise men in our Little People Nativity.
Luke was playing with the set and when he was done he left two of the wise men standing on their heads. They were on opposite sides and surrounded by the other figurines. Camille walked up to the set, looked at it, pushed over the first wise man, looked at the second wise man and then pushed him over too. Eric and I were cracking up.
Then last night I found Camille chewing on one of them (which I saved just in the nick of time) and found that Mac had chewed off the top of the head of the other one. We taped it back up but it will never be the same.
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday, dear Kenny,
Happy birthday to you.
I love you!

Kenny and his friend Harrison had a joint birthday party at Emerald City Gym today. Since Kenny’s birthday is on Wednesday and Harrison’s is today, we decided that celebrating them together made a lot of sense. It worked out really well!

Kenny had his first summer swim meet this morning. The kids swam free and back. Kenny got 3rd in his heat in free and 2nd in back.

Happy 30th birthday to my brother Billy!

I’m pretty strict about nap times. My kids take an afternoon nap until they’re four. Once they turn four, they can play quietly in their room in lieu of sleeping. So what did Luke do on the first day that he had the choice?

…but I really want Eric to get me this for my birthday. One of each of our boys, please.

We had two birthday parties for Kenny on his birthday. After an afternoon with friends, we had our family over for cake after dinner. Kenny got a lot of great gifts. We gave him these sheets to go with the matching comforter that my MIL gave him. Pretty exciting gift, huh? He really wanted them after Luke got his Spider-Man ones earlier this year. I couldn’t justify buying him new bedding just because so I told him that he would have to ask for them for his birthday. He’s a pretty happy boy now. He also got a lot of books. He started reading chapter books at the beginning of the summer. He’s already read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and is on the second book now.
Kenny wanted to have his (Batman) birthday at the Deanna Rose Farmstead. I waited as long as I could to book it because I wasn’t sure about the weather. One day it would say that it was going to be sunny out, the next it would say storms. We decided to just do it and if we had to reschedule, so be it. As we were driving out there on Tuesday, the sky was blue except for this one huge black cloud that was hanging in the air. It looked like it had passed the Farmstead so we weren’t too worried.
We got there, set up and then the kids started arriving. Just as one of the last of the 9 kids arrived, Eric told me that I needed to get things going because a storm had popped up and was coming right for us. We sang to Kenny, served the cake and that’s when the rain started. We were lucky because I had picked an area (the Pig Pen) that was directly under a tree and they had umbrellas for us to put up. Kenny opened up his presents and then as we left to go explore the Farmstead, the rain stopped. We were so lucky. It was soooo hot and humid but at least I didn’t send the kids home soaking wet.
Kenny had a lot of fun. We did too but I’ve never counted to 9 so many times in my life. Thank you Amanda for helping us keep track of all the kids!
(Note: The Farmstead was a GREAT place for a birthday party. There was a lot to do with the kids and the birthday boy (or girl) gets a t-shirt and hat, which is why Kenny has one on in the first few pictures You also get 20 tickets for the kids to use on things like the wagon or pony rides, fishing or mining. If you use them on the wagon ride, make sure you bring cash so an adult can go on it too.)
