This comment led to a meeting with Kenny’s teacher (Mrs. L), which led to an interview with one of the gifted education facilitators, which led to a meeting between the facilitator, Mrs. L, the principal, the school therapist, Eric and I, which led to Kenny being accepted into the gifted program.
There was actually a lot more that went into the process, including a huge project that Kenny had to put together. He’s really into astronomy now so he chose to do it on the Orion constellation and the myth behind it. This project consisted of a power point presentation, links, pictures, a book, a question and answer session with his class and a planetarium (made from an oatmeal container). I’m going to try to download it onto here later if I can. He and Mrs. L spent a lot of time working on it.
Overall, I think that joining this program is going to be really good for Kenny. Mrs. L has been a WONDERFUL teacher but he needs more. He’s way ahead, two to three grades ahead, in science, math, writing and reading. For example, he’s already finished second grade math (independently) and is around half way through with third grade.
Since we’re so close to the end of the school year, Kenny won’t start until August. I know there are two other first graders in his school that have already started so he won’t be alone. Once a week, a bus will take them to the school where the program is based at and they’ll spend half of their day there. It should be fun. Challenging, but fun.

We spent Easter running around (and I mean that in a good way).
Our day went something like this:
Woke up. Hunted for Easter eggs. Met my family at church. Went to Eric’s mom’s house for Easter brunch (along with my SIL and Eric’s aunt and uncle). The Easter bunny left more treats for the boys there. Went home. Eric went to work. Kenny and Luke had some quiet time. Went to my parents for a nice dinner. And yes, there were even more treats for Kenny and Luke at their house (lucky boys).

We dyed our Easter eggs tonight. Better late than never, right?
This is the second year that we’ve done them outside on our back deck. I’m so glad we did because I knocked over the cup of yellow dye within a minute of us being out there.

Eric took the boys to an Easter Egg hunt this morning while I was training two of my new managers. He’s not used to my camera so most of the pictures ended up a little blurry.

Eric and I had a friend’s party two weeks ago so my parents took the boys for the night. Even better, they picked the boys up around 1 so Eric and I had the entire afternoon together. We went and saw a movie. It wasn’t very good but it was still nice to go on a little date. Meanwhile, my parents took the boys to see Toy S tory on Ice.
I love these pictures that my mom took on her phone and sent to mine. I wish I could post the one of my dad with the Buzz hat on because it’s hilarious but I promised him that I wouldn’t:)

Our spring break consisted of:
- The two St. Patrick Day’s parades previously mentioned.
- A trip to Science City.
- A day at the zoo.

Not to mention a lot of sleeping in, playing outside and getting together with friends. It was wonderful and I was not ready for it to be over.

Kenny’s basketball season ended in February. He was getting frustrated because he could not score a basket. He finally did it at the very.last.game.
We were so excited for him!

We started the festivities on Saturday when Brookside had their Warm-Up parade.

And then we finished up with the KC St. Patrick’s Day parade today. Yes, the boys wore the exact same outfits on both days. The only difference between the two days was their hair (they got it cut).

This video off of my phone makes me smile.

On a completely different note…
Since today (Ash Wednesday) is the beginning of Lent, I’ve decided to give up desserts and to go to church one extra morning a week until Easter. At church this morning, the priest pointed out that anyone of any denomination and any age could receive the ashes. I knew that age didn’t matter but I didn’t realize that non-Catholics could get them. You learn new things every day.

Yes, I gave my kids a globe for Valentine’s Day.
Kenny started asking for one right before Christmas, which meant Luke had to have one too.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

We ended up getting around a foot of snow after yesterday’s blizzard. Eric shoveled about half of our driveway last night and then I attempted to shovel the rest of it today. I got about a half (of the half that was left) finished and then I was done.
I know the first picture is blurry but I wanted to give you an idea of what the snow is like here in KC.
