When all the talk of the H1N1 virus started, I had no plans to get myself or my kids vaccinated. I knew the symptoms of H1N1 could be bad but I wasn’t sold on the safety of the actual shot.
But, then Kenny’s school district sent out a permission slip for free H1N1 shots for any kids [...]

Halloween party
Kenny’s class had their Halloween party today. I’m one of the room moms so Luke and I helped out. We had an hour to dress the kids in their costumes, do a parade through all the different classrooms (since they’ll miss the actual parade this afternoon), do 2 projects and finally eat some yummy treats. [...]

Bullet points
Kenny had his last soccer game today. I really can’t say that I mind too much, considering how cold it has been lately. We’re having lunch with the team tomorrow and then we’ll all go our separate ways.
Kenny starts basketball at the end of November. He’s doing it with his friend J.T. (from preschool) for sure and [...]

Kenny’s field trip
Kenny’s kindergarten class went on their first field trip yesterday to one of the local fire stations. The kids all came home with these cute hats.
Can you guys believe the weather lately? I like fall but I’m not excited for all the leaves that will soon be covering up our yard.

First kindergarten progress report
I’ll start with the really good stuff first. Kenny got his first progress report and he is doing fantastic. He did not have any check marks on his form, which is pretty amazing. It just feels good to say that he gets it. I know as the years go by and the work gets harder [...]

Speech
At 11:00 this morning (C.S.T), Obama will be giving his speech to students. If you haven’t read what he’s going to say, you can read it here.
There has been a lot of controversy about it. I know a lot of people are upset. Obviously, otherwise schools wouldn’t be sending home permission slips or deciding not to show [...]

Assessment
Kenny had his first assessment at school today. I think he’ll have 3 total throughout the year. Mrs. B said he did really well. His letter sounds are great and he’s already reading. We have to work on the part of the assessment that includes quickly matching the letter sound to the letter. I guess there [...]

Ivan
A few months ago, we decided to sponsor Ivan through CFCA. We just received our second letter from him yesterday. An adult wrote the letter (he’s only 5), Ivan drew the pictures and then another person translated it for us. How cute is this?
Letter 1
Letter 2
Kenny drew this picture for Ivan, which we mailed right back to him (along [...]

School, work and play
- Kenny is having a great time at kindergarten. We had his back-to-school night last Wednesday and it sounds like he can do the majority of the things they want to accomplish by the end of the year. He’s already reading and knows his numbers. We have to work on counting to 100 by 5’s [...]

Who wants one?
Kenny is raising money for his school by selling those entertainment coupon books. If anyone is interested, they are $20 for the KC area. There are 5 coupons for $5 off at Price Chopper if you spend $50 or $75 (and seriously, who doesn’t do that anyways) so you make your money right back. The [...]

Why I would give anything for afternoon kindergarten…
1. We’re not morning people.
I am a wake up at 7:30 person, not a wake up at 6:45 person. Kenny is the same way. Except for the first day, we’ve had to fight to get him out of bed. It was so bad this morning, he now has to take a nap this afternoon (instead [...]

Quiet time
Kenny had nap time from 1:00-3:00 until he was 4. That didn’t mean that he necessarily slept but he had to stay in bed. When he turned 4, that time turned into quiet time. He can pretty much do anything he wants for those 2 hours as long as it isn’t too loud and he [...]

Kenny had a great first day!
Like it says, Kenny had a great first day of kindergarten. We were going to walk the 2 blocks to school this morning but unfortunately, it looked like this out:
Instead, we hopped in my car and drove to school. For the first week of school, Mrs. B asked that we walk the kids into the lunchroom, [...]

On your first day of kindergarten
Kenny,
I cannot believe that you start kindergarten today. I’m sure I’ll say something similar to this at the beginning of every school year but I really mean it this year. You have so much to learn and so many friends to meet in the upcoming years. I’m so excited for you.
If you have any doubts [...]

Kindergarten conference
Eric, Kenny and I had our conference with Kenny’s kindergarten teacher this morning.
Mrs. B had the kids put their supplies away, showed them around the room and then gave them an idea of what their day would be like. While the kids were busy with her, we filled out the remaining paperwork and paid our school fees.
Kenny even [...]

11
We just went up to Kenny’s school to look at the class lists that were posted today. We already knew that he was going to have Mrs. B because she’s the only teacher for half day kindergarten but we wanted to find out who the kids in his class were going to be. There are [...]

School supplies
We went to Wal-Mart yesterday and bought almost all of Kenny’s school supplies. The only thing I have left to find is a white – not pink, but white - big eraser. I cannot believe that Kenny will start kindergarten in 23 days. This summer has been going by way too fast.

Backpack, backpack
I had to rename this post because the Dora song got stuck in my head. It’s in yours now, isn’t it?
Wow, backpacks have really changed.
Kenny needs a *non-rolling backpack for kindergarten. Pottery Barn Kids is having a sale on them right now (plus free shipping) so we went over there last week to look at them. [...]
