In pictures

My friend Brook met us in downtown Overland Park yesterday to take some fall pictures of the boys.  She takes amazing pictures so when she offered to do it (for free!), I immediately said yes.  She got some amazing pictures and I got to learn some of her photography tricks.  Thank you Brook!
Here’s a sneak peek of [...]

No, maybe, yes

When all the talk of the H1N1 virus started, I had no plans to get myself or my kids vaccinated.  I knew the symptoms of H1N1 could be bad but I wasn’t sold on the safety of the actual shot.
But, then Kenny’s school district sent out a permission slip for free H1N1 shots for any kids [...]

Our Halloween

This Halloween was a lot of fun because #1, I didn’t have to carve our pumpkin and #2 Luke really got it.  Luke had so much fun going up to the different houses and saying yelling “trick or treat”.  He and I went with Eric and Kenny almost all the way around the block and then [...]

Halloween party

Kenny’s class had their Halloween party today.  I’m one of the room moms so Luke and I helped out.  We had an hour to dress the kids in their costumes, do a parade through all the different classrooms (since they’ll miss the actual parade this afternoon), do 2 projects and finally eat some yummy treats.  [...]

Finding Nemo and the Ghost

Just out in time for Halloween…

Finding Nemo and the Ghost
By Kenny

“Where’s Nemo? ” said Marlin.
Dory said, “Look, that says Sydney.”
Marlin said, “But by the sign has a ghost.”

But the ghost was nice.

The ghost invited them to a party.

Inside were more ghosts.

Now they could find Nemo.

Jack-o-lantern

My dad took on the *fun* job of carving our pumpkin this year.
Here are the guys deciding on their course of action.  Kenny wanted the pumpkin to have a nose, a toothy smile, 2 eyebrows and 3 eyes.

Luke wanted his hands washed as soon as he touched the pumpkin guts.

The three guys and the finished product.

Thanks Dad!  [...]

Bullet points

Kenny had his last soccer game today.  I really can’t say that I mind too much, considering how cold it has been lately.  We’re having lunch with the team tomorrow and then we’ll all go our separate ways.
Kenny starts basketball at the end of November.  He’s doing it with his friend J.T. (from preschool) for sure and [...]

Fall lessons

Eric coaches for a swim team 2 nights a week.  One of the perks he gets for coaching is free swimming lessons for our kids.  We started Kenny up last week and then both boys swam yesterday, Kenny, with an instructor, and Luke, with Eric.  I’m hoping that Kenny will be ready for the pre-competitive swim team [...]

Pumpkins

My mom and I took the boys out to the Weston Red Barn Farm today to pick out some pumpkins.  We loved this pumpkin patch.  It didn’t have as many extras (trains, etc) as some of the other ones we’ve been to but the people who ran it were really nice and there was still a lot [...]

I’ve got a few things

In the past few days, I’ve come up with a few gift ideas for the boys.
For Kenny:
- a magic kit.  A friend suggested this.  I’m going to have to look into these and see if I can find one that’s fairly simple but not so simple that he’d use it once and never look at again (aka a waste [...]

I’ve got nothin’

I know it’s early but I usually try to start thinking about Christmas gifts around this time of the year.  I’ve usually got some good ideas but this year, I’ve got nothin’ in terms of the boys.  Kenny loves Legos but I think he has enough to last him a few years and Luke has [...]

GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Kenny scored his first goal at his soccer game….yeah Kenny!
I was (randomly) taking pictures when it happened and then got caught up in the moment so these are the best I was able to get…

I know, it’s completely blurry but you can see that Kenny is in control of the ball.

Kenny was all smiles afterwards.  He [...]

Spooky

Luke helped us put out our Halloween decorations on Tuesday while Kenny was in school.  His favorite thing is my black metal haunted house that is sitting next to our television.  I have a feeling that it’s going to end up somewhere higher that’s out of his reach by the time the 31st gets here.
Luke [...]

Kenny’s field trip

Kenny’s kindergarten class went on their first field trip yesterday to one of the local fire stations.  The kids all came home with these cute hats.

Can you guys believe the weather lately?  I like fall but I’m not excited for all the leaves that will soon be covering up our yard.

San Diego – day 5 (last one, I promise)

Day 5 didn’t involve much except for:
1.  Me trying to talk Eric into moving out there

2.  Flying home to KC.  This flight did not go as well at first.  I have to start out by explaining that Luke’s feet were touching the back of the seat in front of him because of the way his car [...]

San Diego – day 4

Our friend Steve is in the Navy.  On Sunday he took us all out to the base to look at the helicopters, which made Kenny and Luke’s day.  Luke even cried when it was time to go.

After that, we headed out to La Jolla to go to the Birch Aquarium.  The kids had fun but I think we’ll [...]

San Diego – day 3

Day 3 was all about Ali’s baptism.
Eric and I were lucky enough to be her godparents.  I offered to buy Ali a baptismal gown but they already had one from Suzie’s side of the family that had been used since 1914.  So instead, I bought her a charm bracelet.  I put two charms on it, one with [...]

San Diego – day 2

We were up by 7:00 the next morning.  Legoland didn’t open until 10 so we went to the beach.  This was the first time that either boys had seen the ocean.  It was G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.
The water was a little too cold to swim in so we just played on the beach and walked in the water.  [...]
