Our sweet Camille most likely has cancer in her mouth, which isn’t good. Her breath smelled REALLY bad for a couple of weeks and our other dog, Mac, kept licking her mouth. I thought the strangest part was him licking her. I took her to the vet on Monday, expecting them to say she had a bacteria but got the other news instead. They took an X-ray of her lungs and the cancer hasn’t spread there yet. Our vet also said that he didn’t feel anything different about the nodes in her neck. He also looked at some of the tumor and he didn’t notice much, in terms of cancer. He said cancer cells look oblong, whereas normal cells look circular. He said he still thinks it’s cancer because the tumor is so large (1.5-2 inches). We’re taking her to see an oncologist on Wednesday to see what they think. If they can cut the tumor out, we’ll go ahead with surgery. If they think she’ll need surgery and radiation or that the cancer has spread to her jaw bone, I don’t think we’ll be able to do anything. I’m really hoping the cancer hasn’t progressed much and we can do surgery. She’s only been with us for 3.5 years but she’s fit into our family so well. If it is cancer and we can’t do anything about it, we could have as little as 65 days left with her. I told the boys that night and they cried. Maybe some parents wouldn’t tell their kids but I really wanted them to be as sweet as they could with her and spend as much time as they could with her, in case of the worst.
