Last second grader

I swear that Kenny was one of the last second graders to ride a bike.  I tried to teach him a year ago but he had absolutely no interest in it.  I told him a few days ago that he was going to learn to do it whether he wanted to or not over Spring Break.  And he did.  He’s still working on his breaking (as opposed to jumping off his bike) but he’s genuinely enjoying it now.

Luke is riding his bike (with training wheels) now too.

And finally, a video of Luke riding his bike:

Kony 2012

Have you watched the Kony 2012 film yet?

It’s a wonderful 30 minute film that is trying to raise awareness for what is going on in Africa with the LRA.  The LRA, run by Joseph Kony, has abducted over 30,000 children to use as soldiers or wives.  Kony is one of the world’s worst war criminals and their goal is for him to be captured and the LRA disbanded.

How can you help?

1.  Go to their website and read all the information.

2.  Watch and share the video.

3.  Purchase merchandise or donate money.

4.  Find ways to post Kony information around your town/city or simply get the word out about Kony.  The goal is to make him famous, and not in a good way.

Future ball players

I hope the Royals are better by the time Kenny and Luke are old enough to play for them.  If not, the Cardinals or the Red Soxs will be getting them.

Pay Heed, All Who Enter: Beware of the Phog

I love Selection Sunday.

KU is the #1 team in the Southwest bracket.  And because of my Illini friends, I’m REALLY hoping that KU and Illinois get to play each other.  That would be a fun game to watch.

The full bracket can be found here.

Cha Cha

This video off of my phone makes me smile.

—————————————————————————————————————–

On a completely different note…

Since today (Ash Wednesday) is the beginning of Lent, I’ve decided to give up desserts and to go to church one extra morning a week until Easter.  At church this morning, the priest pointed out that anyone of any denomination and any age could receive the ashes.  I knew that age didn’t matter but I didn’t realize that non-Catholics could get them.  You learn new things every day.

Kansas owns you

Also titled:  Muck Fizzou

Also titled:  Ouch!

One of my friends had this on FB and it made me laugh.

FYI:  It is DEFINITELY not child appropriate (just in case you have a little one around).

Thanksgiving 2010 in numbers

0:  Number of runs we participated in.  This is the first year in a long time that we haven’t done the Sprint 5K.  Eric worked until 6:30 that morning so we decided to pass on it this year.  He slept while the boys and I took it easy and watched the Macy’s parade.

2:  Number of Thanksgiving meals we ate.  One with Eric’s family and one with mine.

10:  Number of people who went down to the Plaza lighting ceremony.  This was the boys’ first time to see it live.  We met my brothers and the Martins down there around 5:30, went and got hot chocolate at Scooter’s and then headed to where the stage was set up in time for the countdown, lights and fireworks.  Getting out of there afterwards was a pain in the butt but totally worth it.

Me and my brothers (Mike and Billy)

The fam

Eric and Luke

Kenny

Here’s a video that I found on You Tube of the actual lighting.  It’s a big thing here in KC.

SM West Vikings

SMW alums – did you guys see the SNL LeBron James/Jason Sudeikis skit where he talks about playing basketball at West?  We were laughing so hard.  This Peyton Manning one was hilarious too.

Sudeikis, Paul Rudd and Jason Wiles were all West grads – and no, I didn’t know any of them (they were all older).
